Walkthrough — build a 'Walk done' button
As an example, let's build a 'Walk done' button. Every press adds one dated row to a Notion database. The same steps work for workouts, water intake, medication — anything you want to log.
Create a log database in Notion
Already keeping a log database? Skip this step and connect it as it is. To make a new one, type /database on any Notion page and pick 'Database – Inline'. Name it anything ('Walk log'), leave the built-in title property alone, add a Date property if you want each row dated, and a Text property if you want the memo saved. Property names can be whatever you like — the widget reads your database's schema and matches it.
Connect your workspace and share the page
Press 'Connect Notion workspace' in step 1 above — a Notion approval window opens. Tick the 'Walk log' database (or the page that contains it) and press 'Allow access'. The widget can only read and write the pages you tick here.
Pick the database and copy the URL
Once connected, step 2 lists your databases. Select 'Walk log' and step 3 generates this widget's unique embed URL. Hit copy.
Embed in Notion and start clicking
On your Notion page type /embed, create an embed block, and paste the URL. From now on every press of the widget's 'Complete' button automatically adds a row dated today to 'Walk log'. The memo and the colour can be changed inside the embed itself — type in the memo field before pressing, and pick a colour from the palette icon in the corner. Want more buttons?
