About this widget
Budget Tracker Pro looks like the free Budget Tracker and works differently underneath. Every expense you type becomes a row in a Notion database you already own, and the widget's headline is a sum computed from that database rather than from anything Olivtwig stores. So the history accumulates where Notion's own filters, charts and rollups can reach it; a row you add or correct in Notion shows up in the widget; and there is no entry limit, because the entries were never ours to limit.
What the Pro version changes
The free Budget Tracker keeps its entries in Olivtwig's storage, shows the current month, and holds a bounded number of them. That is fine for seeing what is left this month and wrong for keeping a year of records — which is what most people mean by a household ledger.
Pro moves the ledger into your workspace. The widget becomes a fast way to write to it and a compact way to read this month back. Everything Notion can do with a database — group by category, chart by month, roll up into a yearly page — it can now do with your spending, because your spending is an ordinary Notion database.
How the connection works
You connect through Notion’s own consent screen and grant access to one database. Olivtwig can only see what you granted. The setup page then shows which column is which — amount, date, and where the note goes — filled in with a sensible guess and changeable, because a real database has Spent beside Income beside Budget and a guess is not a contract. A database with no number or date column is refused there and then, rather than failing at the first spend.
The date is computed on the server from the time zone recorded when you set up, not sent by the widget. The embed URL is public by design — it sits in a Notion page — so anything that becomes a permanent record has to be decided somewhere the URL can't reach.
Editing, deleting, and what the embed can do
The split is deliberate, and it follows from the embed URL being public.
- Adding
- Anyone looking at the Notion page can add a spend. That is the point of the widget, and it is the same trust model as the free cloud widgets.
- Deleting
- Not from the embed. Removing a row is a destructive write into your workspace, and unlike an extra row it isn't something you would notice and undo. Corrections happen in Notion.
- The budget
- A widget setting, not a record — it lives with Olivtwig, not in your database, so setting a target doesn't leave a strange row in your expenses.
- Revoking
- Disconnect on the setup page deletes the connection and its access token for real. A leaked embed URL stops working immediately.

What buying this covers
- You pay once. It is not a subscription, so nothing recurs.
- The licence belongs to the account you sign in with. Signing in is needed to create a Pro widget, not to view one — an embed already pasted into Notion works for anyone who opens the page.

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the free Budget Tracker?
The free one stores a bounded number of entries in Olivtwig's cloud and shows the current month. Pro writes every expense into a Notion database you own, reads the month's total back from it, and has no entry limit — the records are yours and they accumulate.
What does my database need?
A number column for the amount and a date column for the day. The setup page lists every candidate for each slot and lets you pick — the note can go in the title or in any text column — and refuses a database missing either, rather than letting you find out from a widget that shows nothing. Put the note somewhere other than the title and new rows will have no title, showing as “Untitled” in Notion.
Can I add expenses in Notion instead?
Yes, and they count. The widget's total is a query over the database, so a row you add, edit or delete in Notion is reflected the next time the widget refreshes.
Can someone with the embed URL mess with my database?
They can add a row, the same way they could press a Notion Button you embedded. They cannot delete rows, read other months, see the database's name, or point the widget somewhere else — that all needs the credential from the setup page. Disconnecting revokes the access token outright.
What happens if I cancel Pro?
Your database is yours and keeps every row — it was never stored with us. You can also disconnect at any time, which deletes the connection and its access token.
